The International Registration Plan (IRP) and the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) are agreements among member states and provinces that provides for the proportional registration of commercial motor vehicles and the fuel tax licensing and filing for interstate operations.
The South Dakota Interstate Online system is a a comprehensive online system for IRP renewals and registrations and IFTA renewals and tax return filings. The online system allows South Dakota staff and authorized users to efficiently and effectively manage their IRP and IFTA accounts, and to comply with IRP, IFTA, PRISM and CVISN requirements. The system facilitates the electronic exchange of data with other IRP and IFTA jurisdictions through the IRP and IFTA Clearinghouses, and between South Dakota and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
